In my memoir, “Altered Light,” I believe that my journey through trials was no accident—it was a purposeful path meant to illuminate the way for others who’ve navigated similar traumatic experiences in their childhoods. Through the pains, hurts, rejections, and abandonment that once seemed insurmountable, I discovered a profound truth: God’s presence amidst it all.
This narrative journey aims to unravel the essence of true love, the essence of victory, and the undeniable reality that every choice bears its own consequence, both good and bad. A child enters this world devoid of awareness, but as that child evolves, it gains a profound self-knowledge, a consciousness unique to its own experience.
I explore the concept of being chosen—selected to enter a world teeming with trials, pain, lessons, and the deeper awareness of an intrinsic, greater self waiting to unfurl. This awareness dawns gradually as the child grapples with the ‘who,’ ‘what,’ and ‘why’ of its existence, an exploration as profound as it is personal.

The child’s journey is a symphony of pain, a chord struck at birth, where pain becomes its constant companion. This realization becomes the child’s first step towards spiritual independence, a will to survive that ignites with its inaugural breath. The arrival transforms everything, altering the very fabric of the child’s existence. The emotional distress of its carrier, the mother, imprints on the child’s soul, fostering an intricate connection between pain and the cycles of life.
Throughout life’s odyssey, the child unknowingly inherits and processes the pain carried by its mother, shaping its experiences and choices. Each encounter becomes a lesson, a piece in the puzzle of self-discovery, offering insights into life’s intricate web of connections.
In the tapestry of twists and turns, highs and lows, the child’s quest is to unearth its hidden identity and inner truth. This saga, this exploration of self, begins now—an odyssey chronicling a soul’s evolution amidst life’s myriad complexities.

I reflected on the analogy of a flower’s journey. It undergoes a transformative process: some flowers wither without leaving a mark, while others endure near-death experiences, fighting for a second chance at life. A flower’s survival hinges on its will to endure weathering storms, neglect, and deprivation of essential nurturing elements.
Just as the wounded flower faces challenges—struggling against weeds and pests threatening its beauty—so too have I encountered adversaries in my life. Some aimed to destroy, while others provided unexpected support, much like benevolent critters aiding a flower’s growth.
The resilience of a flower lies in its roots, anchoring it through trials and turmoil. The soil, concealing those roots, draws sustenance from past storms to nourish the flower, ensuring it survives and continues to grow despite the odds.
I often found myself deeply connected to the emotions and unspoken thoughts of those closest to me. It was as though I possessed a mysterious ability to absorb their true intentions through internal energy, delving into the depths of their hearts without their knowledge. This inexplicable gift seemed to intensify over time, especially after enduring many harrowing events in my life. I often questioned the divine order, pondering why I, of all people, was chosen to endure such torment.
